Feeling the magic of the night and pursuing the wonderful world hidden in the dark night! Today, night vision goggles are an indispensable tool in areas such as travel, wilderness adventures, and security. When choosing night vision devices, IP65 waterproof night vision devices have become the first choice for more and more users. This article will introduce you to IP65 in detail.
What is "IP"?
This IP is not the IP address we usually talk about. The full English name of IP here is: Ingress Protection, which is used to measure the protection level of items against dirt, sand, dust, liquids and other objects. Seeing this, we need to correct our usual understanding of IP65, which is not just about waterproofing.
What does the first digit in an IP rating mean?
The first digit in an IP rating indicates a given enclosure’s level of protection against solid objects. This can include everything from fingers to small particles of dust or other airborne contaminants. In the case of IP65 rated enclosures, 6 is the highest rating against solid object ingress. That means that the product is “dust-tight” – see chart below.
What does the second digit in an IP rating mean?
The second number in an IP rating represents the resistance of the enclosure to liquids. The number 5 in an IP65 enclosure indicates it is protected from light pressure water jets and other liquids sprayed or splashed, from any angle. For reference, the IP rating for liquids extends up to the number 9. An IP69 rated enclosure protects its internal components from liquids even when immersed beyond 1m or sprayed with close-range powerful water jets.

Is IP65 waterproof?
IP65 provides a degree of water resistance, but it's important to note that it's not considered fully waterproof for activities such as submerging the device underwater. Let’s say you need a higher level of water resistance. In this case, consider devices with higher IP ratings, such as IP66 or IP67, which offer greater protection from water, including temporary submersion.
Is IP65 explosion-proof?
While IP ratings primarily relate to dust and water resistance, they do not explicitly cover explosion-proof properties. For environments that require explosion protection, look for equipment with dedicated certifications.
In short, IP65 waterproof equipment brings convenience and protection to our lives. Not only can it be used in various harsh environments, but whether it is outdoor sports or daily life, there is no need to worry about the equipment being damaged by water. Choose a device with an IP65 waterproof rating to bring more convenience and peace of mind to your life!
