What Do Different Waterproof And Dustproof Levels Mean?

Today I will introduce to you the equipment protection level. The protection level is usually expressed by IP followed by two numbers. The numbers are used to clarify the level of protection.
The first digit indicates the device's resistance to fine dust, or the extent to which people are protected from hazards in a sealed environment. It represents the level of preventing solid foreign objects from entering. The highest level is 6; the second digit indicates the degree of waterproofing of the device. The highest level is 8. The larger the number, the higher the protection level.
IP waterproof and dustproof rating
I：dustproof level (the first X indicates)
0: No protection
No special protection against outside people or objects
1: Prevent large solid intrusion
Prevent the human body (such as the palm of your hand) from accidentally coming into contact with the internal parts of the device, and prevent the intrusion of large-sized foreign objects (diameter greater than 50mm).
2: Prevent the intrusion of medium-sized solids
Prevent human fingers from contacting the internal parts of the device and prevent the intrusion of medium-sized foreign objects (diameter greater than 12.5mm).
3: Prevent the intrusion of small solids
Prevent tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5mm from intruding and contacting internal parts of the equipment.
4: Prevent solid matter larger than 1mm from entering
Prevent tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0mm from intruding and contacting internal parts of the equipment.
5: Prevent harmful dust accumulation
Completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects. Although it cannot completely prevent the intrusion of dust, the amount of dust intrusion will not affect the normal operation of the equipment.
6: Completely prevent dust from entering
Completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects and dust.
P: Waterproof level (the second X indicates)
0: No protection
No special protection against water or moisture.
1: Water droplets dripping into the casing have no effect
Vertically falling water droplets (such as condensation) will not cause damage to the equipment.
2: Water or rain dripping onto the housing from an angle of 15 degrees has no effect
When tilted from vertical to 15 degrees, dripping water will not cause damage to the device.
3: Water or rain dripping onto the housing from an angle of 60 degrees has no effect
Prevent rain or water sprayed from a direction with an angle less than 60 degrees from the vertical from intruding into the equipment and causing damage.
4: Splashing water from any angle has no effect
Prevent water splashing from all directions from intruding into the equipment and causing damage.
5: Low-pressure injection at any angle has no effect
Protection against low-pressure water spray lasting at least 3 minutes.
6: High-pressure water injection has no effect
Protection against heavy water spray lasting at least 3 minutes.
7: Can withstand water immersion in a short period of time (15cm-1m, within half an hour)
Resistant to immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes.
8: Immersed in water for a long time under a certain pressure
If the equipment is submerged under specified water pressure for a period of time, it can ensure that it will not be damaged due to water intrusion.
