Cooled detectors and uncooled detectors, as two detectors with different technologies, both play important roles in different fields. When choosing an infrared thermal imaging camera, should you choose uncooled or cooled? Below, we’ll tell you the difference between cooled and uncooled detectors.
First, cooled detectors can maintain a lower temperature when detecting objects to ensure that the detector itself does not interfere with detection results. In contrast, uncooled detectors do not need to be kept cold, so they are more convenient to operate and do not need to wait for cooling time.
Secondly, the refrigerated detector has better sensitivity and resolution due to the existence of low temperature. In some situations where high accuracy and sensitivity are required, refrigerated detectors can provide more reliable detection results. Non-cooled detectors are suitable for situations where rapid detection is required. Since no cooling time is required, the response speed is faster.
In addition, refrigeration detectors usually require the use of gas refrigeration systems to maintain low temperatures, and maintenance costs are relatively high. Non-cooled detectors require no additional maintenance costs and are easier to use and maintain on a daily basis.
To sum up, the difference between refrigerated detectors and uncooled detectors lies in the differences in temperature control, sensitivity and resolution, maintenance costs and application fields. Uncooled detector is best choice for targets with short distance and not requiring very high quality thermal imaging. And also if your budgets are not enough, it is also best for you. While cooled detector is used to detect targets that have tiniest temperature change, long range, high moving speed etc. Depending on the specific needs and application scenarios, choosing the appropriate detector will help to obtain more accurate and reliable detection results. Whether it is a refrigerated detector or an uncooled detector, they all play an important role in different fields and provide great convenience for our life and work.
