For night vision users, the image intensifier tube’s quality defines low-light performance. At RSNV, strict quality control ensures reliability—below is a concise guide to common defects and simple inspection methods.

1. Emission Spots

Emission spots are stationary, non-flickering bright dots in the FOV, interfering with clarity and shortening tube life.

How to Inspect: Power on the device with a battery, cover the objective lens with light-tight black cloth, and check for constant, non-blinking bright dots.

2. Discharge Phenomenon

This defect is irregular bright areas in the FOV, only appearing briefly when powered off, indicating internal instability.

How to Inspect: Power on then off, and observe the FOV for fading irregular bright regions at shutdown.

3. Irregular Circular FOV (Including Visible Glue Stains/Overflow)

A quality tube has a crisp, standard circular FOV. Edge bulges, irregularity, or glue stains/overflow harm accuracy and aesthetics.

How to Inspect: Check for edge bulges, confirm a perfect circular FOV, and scan for obvious glue stains/overflow.

4. Black Spots

Black spots are dark blemishes; large ones in the central zone 1 block key details and are problematic.

How to Inspect: Focus on central zone 1—per industry standards, large black spots here are unacceptable for high performance.

5. Fluorescent Spots

Fluorescent spots are bright, glowing blemishes disrupting clarity, a critical defect for precision use.

How to Inspect: Power on the tube and scan the FOV for bright spots distinct from normal imaging brightness.
